Unfortunately, scammers have resurfaced with a scheme known as a ‘task scam’. These scams often involve unsolicited messages via platforms like WhatsApp, offering seemingly legitimate job opportunities that require completing simple online tasks for payment. However, victims are eventually asked to pay upfront fees or deposits, leading to financial loss.
What Is a ‘Task Scam’?
A ‘task scam’ is a type of fraud where individuals are lured into performing tasks online with the promise of payment. Initially, small payments may be made to build trust, but eventually, victims are asked to pay money upfront for tasks, with the promise of higher returns that never materialise.
