OSPREY NESTING
PRESERVATION ADOC SUSTAINABILITY REPORT 2024
EFFORTS
Ospreys (Pandion haliaetus) have been found to
nest naturally and in artificial nests on Mubarraz
Island and all along the causeway connecting
West Mubarraz to Mubarraz Island. Since 2005,
ADOC has been actively engaged in monitoring
and preserving the osprey population on
Mubarraz Island. Several pairs of ospreys breeds
on the island, using some of the artificial nesting
facilities put up by ADOC at various locations
along the causeway and the island.
Mangrove plantation project
Since 1983, ADOC has been making substantial mangrove planting efforts year after year, with planting campaigns
on Mubarraz Island, West Mubarraz and all along the causeway. These efforts are continuously supported monitoring
programs to track the growth, survival rate, and ecological value of the planted mangroves. Our efforts align with the
UAE’s National Carbon Sequestration Project, which aims to plant 100 million mangroves by 2030, as well as ADNOC’s
target to plant 10 million mangrove seedlings across Abu Dhabi by the same year.
In 2024, ADOC planted 62,521 saplings resulting a total of around 686,239 saplings between 2005 and 2024.
